Dare likes to play any place where people want to hear him—living rooms, stadiums, art galleries, derelict strip malls, glitzy music venues filled with trend-setting starlets, fire-gutted churches with free enchiladas. Write STS Booking, and together we will find a way:

The wrong-eyed Jim: June Newsletter

Catfish eaters and speakers-in-tongue,

As always, hang in there through the whole email and get an end-of-email prize.

Super Duper Point of This Email: I’m giddy. Why? This Saturday in Athens, Georgia, I’m sharing the stage with alt-country super nerd and spiritual fried-fish-eater Jim White. If you don’t know his music (shame on you), he falls somewhere between Studs Terkel, Tom Waits, and Kurt Weill. If you live within 400 miles of Athens, I suggest you make the drive. And while you’re there, pinch me.

I promised myself it would be a light summer. And yet, somehow, it’s not. There are many more shows coming up with some great local and traveling bands. And the recording officially begins at the end of July!

Read on, sisters and brothers.

Upcoming Shows:

The Big Nifty:

Interesting phenomena worth mentioning.

  • Finally, finally, finally, we’re going into the studio at the end of July to begin work on the new record (Release: Spring 2011). I’m thrilled to be working with the ultra talented Suny Lyons of Athens (Phosphorescent, Hope for Agoldensummer, Tin Cup Prophette). This is just the beginning. I’ll also be recording sometime in the fall in New York City.
  • Ginormously talented Savannah photographer Jade McCully snapped some sparkly new press photos. Have a look.
  • Connect Savannah gave me and the Blackstock Collection a “Best of Savannah 2010” award, for cryin’ out goddamn loud. You guys who voted for me, you’re too much!

Blog Love:

Smart and good-looking people who’ve said nice things about my music of late. Read them, love them back.

End-of-Email Bonus Prize:

Nice sticktoitiveness. A blue ribbon for your effort. Enjoy your prize.

PS. A moment of silence for the brown pelican, the shrimp boaters, and those who make a living on the waters and shores of the befouled gulf coast.
