Booking

Dare likes to play any place where people want to hear him—living rooms, stadiums, art galleries, derelict strip malls, glitzy music venues filled with trend-setting starlets, fire-gutted churches with free enchiladas. Write STS Booking, and together we will find a way:

Hearing Red: February News

Februarians,

We have oh so much to report.

First, if you’re in or near Savannah, I’m playing this Friday, February 4, with two great bands. The Red River (from Long Beach and Portland) will be passing through town on their winter tour. I played with them last October, and, if you were there, you saw them make the audience levitate. Truly wonderful. NPR’s All Songs Considered named their recent release Best of 2010. The lovely local Brandon Nelson McCoy will open. Details are below.

Second, alt-country southern-gothic musician and raconteur Jim White is producing a song, “Simon Says,” on my new record. This is ginormous news and makes me pinch myself a lot. Details below.

Third, we have many great shows coming up (despite having promised myself that I’d limit performances so I can finish that pesky record).

Upcoming Shows

The Big Nifty

  • Jim White, Producer: In case you missed my indescriminant gushing, I’m very happy to announce that Jim White—hallowed southern-gothic alt-country songwriter and storyteller—is producing "Simon Says," one of the songs on my upcoming record. Jim has been very kind and supportive since we shared a stage in Athens last year. Last weekend I traveled to Athens, where we tracked many wonderous instruments at Jim’s house. Boy oh boy, does it sound terrific.
  • Untitled Record #2: First off, no, I haven’t come up with a name yet. Second, despite its lack of a name, steam is gathering, talented people are participating. In addition to Jim and my fantastic band, Of Montreal’s Thayer Sarrano plays piano, the Modern Skirts’ JoJo Glidewell plays accordion and piano, Hope for Agoldensummers’ Claire Campbell sings backup vocals, and TV on the Radio’s horn section (Kevin Moehringer, Peter Hess, and Michael Irwin) tracked for us in Brooklyn in January. We’ve now recorded in three U.S. cities, and we’re considering doing some tracking in Berlin, Germany (no, I’m not kidding).
  • New Web Site: If you haven’t checked it out already, please do. It’s luminescent and helpful. And it’s all the fault of Amanda Hanlon at ADH Studio.

End-of-Email Bonus Prize

Good job. Nice work. "A" for effort. Here’s your prize.

See you soon, I hope.

Best,
Dare
